About

The thesis

Street Investors Exchange (SIEX) gamified investment education and gave students hypothetical money to invest. The goal was to identify the most talented investors and provide them with miniature funds to invest in local start-ups.

SIEX was built for people of color. We theorized that because of their lived experience, our investors would be better able to identify uncrowded markets than their white cis-gendered male counterparts.

How this simulation works

  1. You start with $100,000 hypothetical cash and a roster of fictional tickers representing under-served markets.
  2. Buy and sell shares. Each ticker has its own drift and volatility โ€” some are slow compounders, others are riskier bets.
  3. Advance the simulation one week at a time. Prices move via a seeded geometric random walk, so a given run is reproducible.
  4. After 10 weeks, your portfolio is compared against an equal-weight benchmark index.
  5. Beat the benchmark and you unlock the Fund tier: allocate $25,000 across four real-feeling local start-ups.

Nothing here is real money. Tickers, start-ups, and prices are fictional.
